Welcome to Austin - the thriving State Capital of Texas! Austin is rated the No. 1 best place to live in the USA (U.S. News & World Report, 2017).
Culture and Recreation
Live Music in Austin
Austin, known as the Live Music Capital of the World, stands ready to entertain. With some 120 music venues and nearly 1,000 musicians in residence, great live music can be heard 365 days a year. Austin musicians perform in every genre of music from rock, country, folk and blues to jazz, classical, Latino and world music. Austin knows how to jam with two main entertainment areas downtown, Sixth Street and the Warehouse District. Adding to its renown, Austin hosts the Austin City Limits Music Festival each fall and the international South by Southwest (SXSW) music and multimedia festival each spring.
The Austin Outdoors
The City Stays Active
Austin boasts an active outdoors scene which can rival its music and night-life scene. Lake Travis is a sixty-five mile long artificial lake on the Colorado River just west of the city. Downtown Austin has a 10-mile hike and bike trail running through the middle of the bustling city. You can run, bike, kayak, canoe, or rent a swan paddle boat and spend the day soaking up one of the 300 days of sunshine on the water.
Austin is also home to Zilker Park and Barton Springs Pool. Zilker is Austin’s largest and most popular park, and Barton Springs is a spring-fed cemented pool that stays a cool 68 degrees all year long—a welcome respite from the hot days in the summer.
Austin also has outdoor attractions like botanical gardens, wildflower gardens, Mt. Bonnell, the Congress Avenue bats, First Thursday, and many more outdoor attractions that keep students, who decide to attend UT Austin, entertained and connected to their college community.
We hope you will call Austin your home!
