Shahid Ullah Honored as Distinguished Cockrell Engineering Graduate
Every year the School of Engineering recognizes a group of alumni who have presented themselves to the world as consummate professionals, dedicated engineers and strong supporters of engineering education.

This award is the highest honor that the Cockrell School gives to its graduates. We are proud to announce that one of our Petroleum Engineering graduates, Shahid Ullah, was so honored this past May.
A 1982 graduate of the university, Ullah received executive development training at the University of Oxford and London Business School. He is a member of the UT Engineering Advisory Board and is currently facilitating international academic cooperation between The University of Texas at Austin and the American University of Iraq-Sulaimani.
President of Afren Resources USA Inc. and executive director of Afren PLC, an independent upstream oil and gas exploration and production company, Ullah has held senior management positions at Western Atlas International Inc., Baker Hughes and Jefferies Randall & Dewey Inc. Shahid was also the founding president and director of Brass Exploration Unlimited, and an inaugural executive of PetroAlliance, a Russian-American joint venture.
As you would expect of such an honoree, Shahid and his family “bleed orange.” Shahid’s wife, Sharon, is a University of Texas at Austin graduate with a degree from the College of Natural Sciences. Their son Zachary is graduating from the university with a B.S. in engineering and Plan II Honors and their daughter Lorena will graduate from the university in 2014 with a degree in education.
It is a great pleasure to congratulate Shahid Ullah, our Distinguished Graduate! For more about Shahid see the complete story at the School of Engineering site.
