Dr. Nguyen’s current research program is focused on (1) enhanced hydrocarbon recovery methods involving heat, gas and chemical injections, (2) complex fluids (surfactants, polymer, nanoparticles, foam, emulsion, gel) for controlling unwanted fluid production and improving the conformance of injected fluids, (3) control of scale (asphaltenes, paraffin wax, minerals, hydrate) deposition in natural rocks and pipelines, (4) improved production of unconventional resources including enhanced flowback, non-aqueous fracturing fluids and cyclic gas injection, and (5) subsurface carbon utilization and storage.
