About
Byron Haynes first came to the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering as a student, receiving both his B.S. and M.S. in petroleum engineering.
With more than 45 years of experience in petroleum and reservoir engineering, he brings extensive industry expertise into the classroom through a strong commitment to teaching, mentoring and preparing students for professional practice.
He serves as an associate editor for the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and as an ABET Program Evaluator, supporting excellence in engineering education and accreditation.
Before joining the UT Austin Faculty, Haynes held senior technical and leadership roles with Shell, North Caspian Operating Company, Petroleum Development Oman, Oxy, BP and ARCO, where he specialized in reservoir engineering, field development planning and reservoir management. He developed and delivered global reservoir engineer training programs during his career at Shell, reflecting his longstanding passion for education and professional development.
Haynes earned both his B.S. and M.S. in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. A longtime member and Distinguished Member of SPE, he has contributed to the profession through technical editing, publishing and instruction on technical communication.
