About

Larry W. Lake has been a professor in the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin since 1978. He holds the Shahid and Sharon Ullah Endowed Chair in Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering. Before joining the faculty at UT, he spent five years working as an engineer at Shell Development Company in Houston, Texas.

Lake is a world-famous expert in reservoir engineering, geochemistry, fluid flow in porous media and enhanced oil recovery. He pioneered the fields of EOR and reservoir characterization, has written 150+ technical papers and four textbooks and is the editor of three bound volumes.

Throughout his career, Lake has been an incredible mentor to colleagues, students and alumni. He has twice been named a distinguished lecturer and distinguished member by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and has served on the SPE Board of Directors. In 2001, he was named to the Texas Society of Professional Engineers Dream Team.

He announced his retirement in 2023.
