Sean Moore's passion for petroleum engineering stretches far beyond the classroom. In only his sophomore year, he has finished his third internship, is the publicity co-director for the Student Engineering Council (SEC) and serves as a representative for the university’s Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) chapter.

Courtney Heard, UT PE junior, has one piece of advice for incoming freshmen: get involved as soon as possible. By joining numerous on-campus clubs and organizations, the UT PGE Alumni Endowed Scholarship recipient said she’s found a close-knit community.

Geosystems Engineering and Hydrogeology 

After serving in the Navy and transferring to UT Austin from UTSA, Juan Abreu landed in UT PGE as a geosystems major. Now the president of the university’s Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Chapter, he understands the pivotal value of good communications skills, networking and gaining knowledge from the people around him — skills that lead to opportunities in and outside of the classroom.
