The First-year Fall Retreat (FFR) is a required event hosted for newly admitted UT PGE undergraduate students. All incoming fall 2017 students, including freshmen and transfer students, are invited to take part in this exciting event, which introduces students to the Longhorn spirit and pride. The event is a great opportunity to make connections with your classmates, UT PGE faculty and staff, industry representatives, and, of course, have fun before the start of fall classes!

The retreat will be held off-campus on August 27-28, 2017 (Sunday and Monday) at The Retreat at Balcones Springs, approximately 45 miles northwest of Austin. UT PGE will take care of round-trip transportation for all students between Austin and Marble Falls.


We highly encourage new students to check-in to their new housing on Friday, August 25 and no later than Saturday, August 26.


  1. Please register for the retreat by Friday, August 11, 2017 by 8 a.m. (Space is limited and there is the possiblity we will get full.)
  2. University policy states that events sponsored off-campus will require travel release and medical forms. The following documents should be submitted to CPE 2.502 by Friday, August 18 by 5 p.m.

*These forms cannot be faxed or emailed. If you cannot drop them off, the original forms need to be sent by mail.


  • Sunday, August 27 arrive before 11:50am – Meet at CPE 2.502. The bus will depart at 12pm!
  • Monday, August 28 at 6pm – Arrive back to CPE
  • Tuesday, August 29 at 5pm – Gone to Engineering event


  • All students will be taken to the retreat in a chartered bus
  • Students will not be allowed to drive themselves or carpool to the retreat


  • Team-building group challenge
  • Lake time, basketball, tennis, billiards and more
  • Hawaiian themed evening social
  • "Game of Thrones" watch party on Sunday evening (for those who are fans of the show)

What to Bring

  • Comfortable clothing for two days
  • Pillow, sleeping bag or twin-sized bedding (bed linens are not provided)
  • Attire for Hawaiian party
  • Toiletries (bath towels will be provided)
  • Sunscreen
  • Tennis shoes & flip flops
  • Flashlight
  • Alarm clock (alarm on phone will work)
  • Swimsuit
  • Beach towel

Students will be assigned to sleep in a cabin with 4 to 7 other classmates. The rooms are air-conditioned and have their own bathroom. Towels will be provided in the room. All meals and snacks are included – please do not bring any food. If anyone needs any special accommodations, the department will do its best to fulfill your request.
