UT PGE Students Compete in SPE Paper Contest
February 25, 2025
The Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering (UT PGE) held its annual department-wide Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) local paper contest on Feb. 21, with 25 students participating in the bachelor’s, master’s and PhD divisions.
In each division, a panel of judges from industry and academic heard each student’s 20-minute presentation on research or an internship experience and then awarded first, second and third places to the top students. First place winners received $1,000, second place winners received $500, and third place winners received $250. The top two finishers in each category advance to the regional SPE paper contest in April.
PhD Division
- First Place: Veer Denduluri
Thermally Activated Lost Circulation Control Technology - Second Place: Sadam Hussain
A Full Physics Feasibility Study of Depleted Gas Carbonate Reservoir for Underground Hydrogen Storage - Third Place: Hassan Amer
Identification of Enthalpy Injection Thresholds in Butane-Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage
Master’s Division
- First Place: Kulpitcha Sudyodprasert
Automated Production Activity and Abnormality Detection for Well Integrity Monitoring in HPHT Oil Production Well - Second Place: Sunghyun Ko
An Experimental Study of Enhanced Oil Recovery from Organic-Rich Shale Reservoir Cores by Aqueous Ketone Solution - Third Place: Cinar Turhan
Digital Rocks Portal for Image Curation, Characterization, Visualization, and Transport Simulation in Porous Media
Bachelor’s Division
- First Place: Reem Alsuwaiyan
Clay as a Foam Stabilizing Additive for Geologic Resource Recovery - Second Place: Matheo Valena
