New Students

Incoming PGE students will attend advising and course registration during new student orientation. Please be sure to register for UT Orientation after accepting your offer of admission. Also, make sure you have a laptop computer that meets our minimum hardware requirements.

Welcome Back Advising (August 24-27)

Your PGE academic advisors, Allison and Jaimie, will be on campus and ready to help during your first week of fall classes! If you need academic advising help from August 24-27, you don’t need an appointment.

Stop by the CPE Advising Suite (CPE 3.168) and sign in for quick in-person help at the following times: 

Monday, August 24: 10–11:30 a.m., 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Tuesday, August 25: 9–11:30 a.m., 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Wednesday, August 26: 9–11:30 a.m., 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Thursday, August 27: 1:30-3:30 p.m.

A note about phone calls: During peak advising periods (such as during registration advising or at the beginning of the term), your academic advisors will be hosting advising sessions and monitoring email. Phone calls and voice messages regarding advising and registration will not be regularly monitored.

Tutoring

The UT PGE Tutoring Program provides free tutoring for most undergraduate PGE courses. One-on-one and drop-in tutoring is available. Contact Allison McNamara for the most up-to-date schedule and information on how to schedule an appointment.

Additionally, free tutoring and paid private tutoring are available on campus. Free departmental tutoring options are available, as well as group or private options through the Sanger Learning and Career Center.

Undergraduate students are also eligible for 2 hours of free tutoring per week through the Cockrell School of Engineering’s EOE Tutoring Program.

Laptop Requirements

Students entering PE or GE degree plans are required to have access to a portable computing device capable of running programs suitable for use in the classroom and on the university wireless network. The use of this device will be necessary in many required courses, and individual instructors may require the device to be brought to class or lab sessions.
